luke12-32

Ecclesiastes 6:1–12; Acts 10:9–23; Luke 12:32–40

The poor man is rich when he has been given the kingdom. It changes everything in this life. Now rich, even the little he has can be given away. For he has received everything of any real value: grace and an abundant life, not only in heaven but now on earth as well. He has something to live for and enjoy.

Oddly, being citizens of heaven, we not only look forward to eternal life, but we enjoy more fully the good things of life on earth too. Christians are ready to move on but also satisfied with their lot and calling in this present life. Whatever our vocations may be in this life, part of our readiness is calling others to the kingdom life. When the Spirit speaks, “Behold,” we become heralds of the kingdom, calling the spiritually needy to a fuller life in the Son of Man.

Prayer: Help me to live in and give away the treasure you have given me, O Lord. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Mark Ryman, Communications Coordinator for the NALC.
