Dear Friends in Christ,

“To move away from home to a new town and a new school is hard,” says Marisa Crofts, who is pursuing the Master of Divinity degree at the North American Lutheran Seminary (NALS) and who has just been entranced as a candidate for ordination in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). “But what I’ve learned at the seminary and the relationships I have made, the mentoring and friendships between myself and my professors are so great that I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” Ryan Henkel, a lifelong Lutheran and endorsed candidate for ordination, is beginning his internship year after he graduates from the NALS in May. He writes, “The seminary has given me far more than I anticipated since stepping onto the campus for the first time. My prayer is that we continue to grow in faith together for the future of the NALC.”

Marisa and Ryan are two of the 22 students who are preparing for ministry within the NALS. Together, they will serve as faithful, confessional, and mission-driven leaders for our church. We praise the Lord that they have heard the calling of God to serve in our church’s ministry.

The Urgent Need

– Approximately nine out of 10 NALC pastors are over the age of 40.
– 75 percent of pastors are over the age of 60.
– Since 2010, the NALC has grown to more than 420 congregations and is still growing.

We also thank God for your support for the seminary. As individuals, congregations, and mission districts you have been very generous in providing needed funds for our seminary. NALC Bishop John Bradosky comments, “The response of our people to the seminary reflects their joy in the Gospel and assures us that the formation of faithful pastors will continue uninterrupted in the NALC for the next generation of mission-driven disciples.”

Since 2014, the month of May has been designated by the NALC as a time for congregations and individuals to make generous gifts to the seminary. We ask that you and your congregations would conduct a special campaign to support the ministry of the NALS.

Your continued help and generous giving will not only serve to support current students and upcoming initiatives but will also enable us to continue offering robust scholarships and allow us to innovate with distance learning in partnership with undergraduate institutions across North America.

We believe the NALC has a word of gospel to speak to our world—and we are certain that the NALS is an integral part of extending that promise. Help us support our church by giving to your seminary.

The Call

The North American Lutheran Seminary needs both your prayers and generous financial support to continue our mission of preparing competent, evangelical, and confessional pastors who will faithfully and eagerly serve in the decades to come.
