This year’s convocation approved two groups of amendments proposed by the Executive Council. Consideration of a third group of amendments — the amendments that would name the regional groups of the NALC as mission districts — was postponed until the 2021 Mission Convocation.
As a result of the action of the 2020 Mission Convocation, each North American Lutheran Church (NALC) congregation is asked to schedule a duly called congregational meeting for the purpose of voting “yes” or “no” on the convocation’s action to amend the NALC Constitution.
These amendments must be ratified by two-thirds of NALC congregations voting within six months of the conclusion of the 2020 Mission Convocation before they will go into effect. February 8, 2021 is the deadline for your congregation’s meeting to consider ratification.
The packet linked below has been emailed to all NALC congregations. Included in the packet is a letter from the Executive Council explaining its reasons for proposing the amendments, and providing instructions for your congregation’s meeting to consider ratification of the amendments approved by the convocation. Also included are model ballots for congregational meetings and the required form for reporting your congregation’s decision on the amendments. Each voting congregation is required to submit one Notice of Ratification Vote form.
