“Healing the broken soul” is the mission statement of Nile Evangelical Church, which serves the Sudanese community in Rochester, NY. A congregation of the NALC originally established in 2005, Nile Evangelical proclaims the Word of God through preaching, the Sacraments, weekly Bible study, a women’s ministry that sings and visits women in the community, and youth ministry. Many in its community have suffered in Sudan, and have family there who continue to endure hardship.
Nile Evangelical Church is deeply appreciative of all of those across the NALC who have partnered with them in ministry to help establish a permanent home for their congregation. Together with an NALC mission grant, they have successfully completed their center for ministry and worship space. Their pastor is bi-vocational, and they are seeking additional financial and prayer support to assist in his salary, transportation needs, and other day-to-day practical ministry concerns.
