colossians1-10

Exodus 17:1-7; Colossians 1:15-23; John 7:37-52

Scientists have theorized that there is an unseen substance in the universe called “dark matter” that exerts a force which holds everything together, making it one of the greatest mysteries in modern astrophysics. Yet, our reading from Colossians tells us that this unseen force is none other than Jesus Christ himself when we read “…in him all things hold together.” For us this is good news because that means we are in “sync” with God’s plan for the redemption of everyone and everything that has been broken by sin.

When sin entered God’s creation everything started falling apart. The perfection God intended for us was in need of being brought back. This is where Jesus comes in. The reconciliation that Scripture speaks about is a remaking of the current order to where God says, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Rev 21:5). The really good news for us is that we do not have to figure out a solution. The Lord has planned for our good. It is the perfect plan because it has been brought down to the molecular level. Every molecule in your being and mine has been slated for newness in Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God!

Prayer: Loving Lord, help me hold things together in my life by holding onto Jesus Christ, in whose name I pray. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Randy Conley, Pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in Hubbard Lake, MI.
