Obadiah 15-21; 1 Peter 2:1-10; Matthew 19:23-30

I have sometimes been accused of using Jesus as a crutch. I admit I have definitely learned to lean on him. He is the rock on which I depend for my life and for my salvation. I also admit that I slip off of that rock more than I should. But, thanks be to God, even when I slip and fall, Jesus is there to catch me. He is there to lead me out of the wilderness.

Anyone who accuses someone of using Jesus as a crutch is probably not aware of what it really means to lean on him or to follow him. Following Jesus is not as easy as some would suppose. It means that some of the things that are the most important to this world and to us must be removed from our lives. No matter how much we want something or someone, Jesus must come first.

As this begins to happen, with the help of God, when our egos and personal, worldly desires are moved to last place, then we will find ourselves where we truly belong: living in God’s presence in his kingdom.

Prayer: God, help us all to take our stand on the rock of our salvation, who is Jesus the Christ. Amen.

  • Pastor Judy Mattson,
Thank you for bringing this subject up. Christians have been accused for decades and beyond of being crippled and needing a crutch. Yes we are crippled, living in this world is a crippling effect on the church. What these same people do not understand is that those of the world have their crutches as well. Alcohol abuse, drugs, porn, and the list goes on. Using the Bible as our strength has a positive impact, whereas the other list has a very negative effect. Praise God that he is willing to stand and allow us to lean upon HIM
