The North American Lutheran Church’s (NALC) Lutheran Week continued in Nashville, TN, on Wednesday with the Braaten-Benne Lectures in Theology begun the previous day. Wednesday’s lecturers and lectures were Dr. David Luy, “A Wondrous Strife: Luther’s Baroque Soteriology”; and Dr. Gordon Isaac, “Luther on Prayer, Meditation, and Spiritual Trial.” The NALC’s Younger Theologians again led Q&A following each lecture, having been given questions from the audience, while providing a few of their own.

Dr. David J. Luy is Assistant Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is the author of Dominus Mortis: Martin Luther on the Incorruptibility of God in Christ.

Dr. Gordon Isaac is Berkshire Associate Professor of Advent Christian Studies and Dean of Chapel at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. The focus of his masters’ degrees and doctoral work was on Martin Luther. He is the author of Left Behind or Left Befuddled: The Subtle Dangers of Popularizing the End Times.

Lutheran Week continued after lunch with the 2017 NALC Mission Festival. The annual event began with Service of the Word and a keynote address from Bishop John Bradosky that focused on Discipleship. Messages followed by the Rev. Yonas Yigezu from the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) and the Rev. Dr. Gemechis Buba, Assistant to the Bishop for Mission. Filling out the day were panel discussions and mission district gatherings for a Bible study prepared for them by Bishop Bradosky.
