Today’s readings: 1 Samuel 16:14–17:11; Acts 10:17-33; Luke 24:36-53

I remember the time I was asked to speak with the call committee of my current congregation. My quick response to the question was, “Why would I want to do that? I am not moving to North Carolina. Persistence gave way and I agreed that, “If the committee wanted to talk about Jesus, that would be fine. I love talking about Jesus, but I am not moving to North Carolina.”

While Peter was contemplating the meaning of the vision he had received, men from Cornelius came to invite him to the centurion’s home in order that he might speak to them. Cornelius had also received a vision; his prayers found favor with God and he was to send for Peter who would preach to him the gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon hearing their plea, Peter went with them.

Throughout the world there are people who hunger and thirst for the gospel message. God gives his Word to those who will speak it, then sends them where he will, in order that they may share the gospel. It may not be to a place you would choose, but once there, you realize you did not go alone. God is with you.

Prayer: Lead me, O Christ, to the place you would have me go, that I may speak your Word. Amen.
