Exodus 32:21-34; 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10; Matthew 5:11-16
The passionate anger that ran through every ounce of Moses’ body could be heard as he screamed out every one of these words at Aaron. “I leave you alone, put you in charge, and look at what you have allowed to happen—total chaos!” The heart of God was every bit as broken, every bit as angry at His people.
The chaos and sin that ensued after Moses turned the leadership over to his brother, Aaron, mirrors the chaos and sin in our world today. The leadership in our country seems to give in at every turn to the latest poll. What are God’s people to do and to be in the midst of all this? The passage in Exodus 32:26 gives the answer as Moses stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the Lord, come to me.”
God doesn’t ask us to be politically correct, to bow to every fad that comes on the scene. Rather, God asks us to stand firm on Him through His Son, Jesus Christ—the true Rock of Ages. “All other ground is sinking sand.”
Prayer: Most gracious Lord, find us faithful to you this day, in the midst of a chaotic and evil world, through your Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
